Seville Named Residential Green Building Advocate
Carl Seville, owner of Seville Consulting, Decatur, has been named Residential Green Building Advocate for the Atlanta chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. In this role, Seville will work closely with local homebuilders’ associations and other green homes organizations, as well as within his own USGBC chapter, to explain and promote the LEED for Homes Program.
LEED, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System™, is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. The program provides a roadmap for measuring and documenting success for every building type and phase of a building life cycle. The LEED program was developed by the membership of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a nonprofit organization composed of leaders from across the building industry working to advance buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
Seville has been a strong proponent of green building for many years, both as a builder and as an educator. He is recipient of the 2005 and 2007 Green Building Advocate of the Year and the 2004 and 2006 National Green Building Awards for Residential Remodeling from the National Association of Home Builders. He has authored many articles on the subject of green building and presents seminars to building industry professionals to expand their green building knowledge.
As the USGBC Residential Green Building Advocate, Seville is responsible for working with LEED Providers and industry professionals from a national to a local level, explaining and promoting the LEED program, identifying green building leaders, and providing feedback to the national organization. To prepare for this position Seville recently attended a two-day training session in Washington, D.C. sponsored by USGBC. Carl Seville has over 30 years of experience in renovation and home construction. He was the founder and vice president of SawHorse Inc., an Atlanta design/build firm for 25 years before starting his current business. He has been featured in and writes for numerous publications, including Green Builder, HGTVPRO.com, Professional Remodeling, Qualified Remodeler, Remodeling Magazine, Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine, Smart Homeowner, and Environmental Design and Construction Magazine.
