On Saturday, July 26, the team from the Atlanta office of SouthEast Real Estate Investments was proud to volunteer with Open Hand, an Atlanta-based organization that prepares and donates meals to needy individuals throughout the community.
Those served by Open Hand are typically disabled by chronic illness and are often unable to leave their homes to purchase or cook food for themselves. Open Hand works to provide Comprehensive Nutrition Care (CNC) to its clients, which includes a combination of nutritious, home-delivered meals and nutrition education.
This past weekend, 10 volunteers from the SEREI team spent five hours lending their hands to deliver meals to approximately 70 homes and packing more than 180 pantry bags. Often times, the volunteers from Open Hand are the only people one of these chronically ill clients may see on a given day, and many have little to no family support. The experience was both eye-opening and rewarding for the SEREI team.
“Working with Open Hand on Saturday was such a great way to spend a day! The program is so well organized that a volunteer is almost assured to have a positive experience. It’s a terrific organization that helps so many people,” said Marty Wagner. “I was happy to be associated with it for the day and look forward to another chance to work with them again in the future!”
Open Hand delivers more than 5,500 meals every day to residents throughout the metro-Atlanta area. The SEREI team is proud to have assisted this wonderful organization in serving the Atlanta community on a large scale, holding strong to its value of service not only in the business world, but also to those facing challenges in nearby neighborhoods.
