See the Difference of an EarthCraft House Through Thermal Imaging

There is a lot of well-deserved hype about purchasing an EarthCraft certified house. And while on paper the features and benefits of EarthCraft homes are incredibly appealing, you have to be asking “does it really make that much of a difference?” Well, I am glad you are wondering because Monte Hewett Homes, an Atlanta home builder that has long been devoted to constructing Atlanta new homes that meet or exceed the standards of EarthCraft certification, has taken the extra step to show you the difference through thermal imaging.

Chris Curles of Home Inspections Atlanta took Dina Gundersen on a walk through of a Monte Hewett Home in Stonehaven. By using the infraRED thermal imaging camera, Chris is able to pin point weak areas in the walls of the home – insufficient insulation, air leakage, water leaks, etc. Better yet, Monte Hewett has photos of homes that don’t pass the test, so we are able to compare and contrast.

As you can see below, removing only one bat of insulation can have a significant impact on the temperature of the area (7 degrees difference). If the whole was was not properly insulated, you could have a serious problem on your hands.

Whereas, Monte Hewett Homes utilizes blown cellulose insulation in their homes. The entire wall has a consistent temperature with little variation, and it is made of recycled newspapers. The score so far: Monte Hewett Homes 1/Other 0

Let’s move on to the heating ducts in the attic. Monte Hewett’s has little or no air leakage, leaving homeowners to breath easier and spend less on heating and cooling.

These photos show major air leakage and poor ceiling insulation in a non-Monte Hewett home.

We obviously have a clear cut winner with an overall score of Monte Hewett Homes 2/Other 0. You can get more information about the thermal imaging tests here. But, I just want to point out that these are not doctored images nor is Chris employed by Monte Hewett Homes. This is actual proof that Monte Hewett Homes builds exceptional quality homes that will reduce the monthly utility costs and reduce your carbon footprint.
