Save the Date for the Monastra Foundation’s Fall Golf Tournament
Last year’s inaugural fall golf tournament set really high standards for the Joseph C. Monastra Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research as it raised $100,000 for the fight against pancreatic cancer. The organization is gearing up for another round against the silent killer when the supporters tee off at the Golf Club of Georgia on October 27, 2008, and is currently seeking sponsors. You may recognize Pamela Monastra and Tom Sharp in the picture. These two Atlanta real estate professionals work together on the board of the JCM Foundation to fight pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately both of these individuals have lost family members and close loved ones to the disease. In fact, that is how the Joseph C. Monastra Foundation was founded. Joseph is Pamela’s father, and he died from pancreatic cancer in 2002. When the family tried to find an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the deadly cancer, they were unable to locate one, and thus started their own. Since, the JCM Foundation has raised more than a half million dollars. All of the funds go directly to research at Johns Hopkins, with a current tri-fold focus on learning how pancreatic cancer spreads, identifying and studying the genes that cause pancreatic cancer and study a novel drug for the treatment of the disease. With time, hopefully we will be able to prevent future families from experiencing the losses that Monastra and Sharp have. We want to encourage other professionals from the industry to get involved with this extraordinary cause. So join Pamela and Tom as they try to find a cure for the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths.
