Recapping #AREFChat: November 25

At 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard time on Wednesday, November 25, the second installment of the weekly online Twitter conference, #AREFChat commenced.

Moderated by current ERA Sunrise Realty agent and 25-year veteran of the real estate industry, Kevin Morrow (@KBMRG), this week’s conference centered on the social media giants, Twitter and Facebook.

Kevin began the conversation with the simple question: Facebook & Twitter in Real Estate – What are you doing? Is it working?

From this point on, the conversation flowed with builders/developers such as Bowen Family Homes (@BowenFamilyHome) and Kairos Development Corporation (@KairosDevCorp) sharing their insights about how they use Facebook and Twitter to promote their blogs to both Realtors and homebuyers.

Participants shared their tips and tricks for the social media forums, forming the general consensus that Twitter and Facebook are a great way to drive traffic back to a blog or website.

Kevin then posed the question: Who are you targeting? Realtors or prospective homebuyers?

While it seemed that a majority of #AREFChat participants were eager to target prospective homebuyers, their efforts were reaching more industry professionals. However, this didn’t prove to be a negative as most of the participants were seeing an increase in sales due to their social media efforts. The agents were the target audience and the consumers were residual.

Kevin made a great observation, saying “I have said 3 months of FB and Twitter equaled 2 -3 years of traditional networking.” Many #AREFChat participants and followers agreed with the statement and it was retweeted heavily across the Twitter community.

The 45-minute conversation ended with everyone agreeing that their social media efforts were well worth both the time and effort. Whether participants were using the tools to increase brand awareness, target Realtors, or just build their personal network, each member of the chat believed that Facebook and Twitter will continue to play a major role in the real estate community.
