New Alternatives to Sitting in Traffic Thanks to ULI Atlanta
Urban Land Institute (ULI) Atlanta was recently awarded a $25,000 grant by Community Action Grant for their proposal to raise awareness and understanding about transit systems. ULI Atlanta was chosen from 25 applicants who were all striving to have a positive impact on our community and state. The money will go towards their research on how we can better improve our public transit system in Atlanta. Working with the Transit Planning Board, UTI Atlanta will investigate light rail systems, commuter rail systems, streetcars, and arterial bus rapid transit systems to see which would best serve Atlanta and the greater metro area. Many people have voiced concerns about the current MARTA system and feel that a more efficient and widespread system is needed. Others simply do not know how to use the public transportation. UTI Atlanta feels that their research will not only better the environment, but also will alleviate traffic and improve tourism. For all of us sitting in traffic on our way to work every morning can only hope that UTI Atlanta will use their grant not only effectively, but quickly!
