Learn From the Best with ULI

Each quarter ULI Atlanta’s Young Leaders Group hosts a “Learn From The Best” breakfast. Designed to expose the future leaders in the real estate industry to current trend setters, developers and visionaries, the Learn From the Best series provides young real estate professionals exposure to some of the top industry leaders in an informal, intimate setting.

The January 20 session was led by John Goff. The Senior Vice President of Development at Cousins Properties, John shared his wisdom with the 30 young leaders, offering his words of advice about how to succeed in real estate. Tips included:

• Building diversity in your work portfolio
• Having a disciplined approach with regards to work
• Don’t get too far ahead of yourself, make sure you keep your work grounded in the present
• Be creative
• Be curious and ask questions
• Never stop learning
• Take calculated risks
• Love what you do and do what you love

His most valuable insight was to balance your life in thirds. One third should be devoted to you, one third to others and the last third to work. By leading a balanced life, you will be happy and successful.

The Young Leaders Group creates a unique setting for the leaders of tomorrow’s real estate industry to interact, both professionally and socially, with the leaders of today. Occurring nearly every month, YLG events include panel discussions, presentations, tours, and socials to help ULI members under the age of 35 expand their networks, learn about developments throughout Atlanta, and hear how industry leaders have found success.
