It has been a great year for Oakland Park

Have you heard the buzz about Oakland Park? You would have to be living under a shell to have not.

Oakland Park is an eco-friendly condo community in the Memorial Drive Revitalization district in Atlanta, near Cabbagetown and Grant Park. The building is the first multifamily building to be LEED Silver certified in Atlanta.

The biggest news for Oakland Park this year was being named the 2008 Development of Excellence by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and Livable Communities Coalition. The Development of Excellence Award honors outstanding new developments that are setting the standard for livable, quality growth.

Also very exciting for Oakland Park was receiving the 2008 Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Award in the Residential category. The Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Award, presented by Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) and Atlanta Magazine, honors downtown Atlanta businesses for their design innovations.

The affordable Atlanta condo community was also named a finalist in Environmental Design + Construction’s Excellence in Design and Multi-Housing News’ The Design Excellence Awards.

Oakland Park was one of 26 sites included in the 2008 Georgia Solar Tour. Organized by the Georgia Solar Energy Association the event organizes self-guided tours through buildings across Georgia that exhibit great energy saving technologies.

Finally, one important milestone for Oakland Park was marking the 100th  closing in Atlanta’s Eastside Tax Allocation District (TAD) Affordable Housing Purchase Program in July. The green built condo was sold to a school teacher who received several subsidies from the program and now lives in the intown Atlanta condo of her dreams.
