HomeAid Atlanta Wins OBIE Award for Community Service

The Atlanta OBIE Awards are not just to recognize exceptional work in communities found throughout metro Atlanta, but they also recognize extraordinary community service efforts completed by Atlanta home builders. This year, HomeAid Atlanta and John Wieland Homes & Neighborhoods won a Gold OBIE Award for their work on the My House project in Cherokee County, which serves homeless infants and toddlers.

In late 2007 and early 2008, HomeAid Atlanta built a new transitional housing facility for My House, a nonprofit organization that cares for homeless medically fragile infants and abused children. In partnership with HomeAid Atlanta, John Wieland Homes & Neighborhoods served as the builder captain for the My House project, helping to coordinate the construction efforts. The completion of the initial phase of construction came at a critical time, preventing 12 children from being displaced last December.

Phase one construction for the My House project included building a 2,400 square foot addition to an existing home, accommodating up to 12 infants and toddlers. Other minor repairs were required around the existing home, including the replacement of siding and carpet, and painting. Phase two construction included finishing out the terrace level of the existing home to provide offices for the My House staff, a food preparation area and a play area for the children. Without a doubt, this community service project in Atlanta is helping improve the lives of many young children, and if it wasn’t for the generosity of John Wieland and HomeAid Atlanta, the My House project would not have such a positive impact on the community.

Great job HomeAid Atlanta and John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods for your work on the My House project.
