Christmas Holiday Trends in Decorating

480px-Balsam-Hill-artificial-Christmas-treeYour Christmas tree is usually the focal point when it comes to decorating for Christmas, but remember to take the Holiday decor throughout the entire house – simple, small touches can make a difference. Remember to not over do it, if you are too extravagant it can be distracting from the more important expensive pieces you really want to showcase.

Trees come in all colors and materials, from natural to metal. Be creative with your Tree and decorations. You don’t have to limit yourself to the traditional red and green anymore, you can be creative with color. Christmas Decorations come in a variety of new and trendy shades. Tree’s can be themed for example a Traditional Children’s Tree decorated with hand-made ornaments and ribbon, to an edgy Modern metallic tree – feel free to use your imagination.

It is always fun to wrap your gifts with wrapping paper that coordinates with the tree! Gift wrap empty boxes and use them throughout the house as a Christmas accent. It also can be fun to fill glass jars with colorful ornaments. To add to the Holiday ambiance dim your lights and use scented candles. For the Holiday table, bring out the special holiday dishes and serving pieces and dress your table to coordinate with the rest of the Holiday decorations. Be cautious to keep the centerpiece from overpowering the table and distracting from conversation.

With all of the emphasis today on “green,” we are seeing even more use of live foliage, branches, berry’s, and fruit such as apples, pears, oranges and plums being used in all Holiday Décor. Always remember to have fun and make your Holiday décor an extension of your personality and your personal traditions.

  1. I have 5 trees in my home, all with different themes! I have a pink/purple Barbie themed tree, traditional tree, kids tree with cartoons, super heroes and other kid related ornaments, a black/red UGA tree, and a blue/white Snowbabies tree. All fun to decorate!

  2. Pineapples are also great for natural centerpieces. They add the perfect amount of height as they are taller than most fruit, but not tall enough to block face to face views. They become an elegant addition to your centerpiece when surrounded by a stretch of Christmas tree branches, pinecones, and small red berries!

  3. We have palm trees for all year round colour with coconut bird feeders. They only grow on the south coast of England and will not really grow any further north.

  4. I have used the Gemmy light show before. I mainly use it for my penguins at work as it gives me the “randomness” that I want. I used one at home last year as well, but didn’t have enough LED lights to really make it look like a “Show”. This year I will use it again at work and at home.
