Helping Georgians Stay Warm This Winter
As the cold winter months approach, many Georgians find it difficult to come up with the money needed to pay their heating bills. In an effort to make things a little easier this winter, The Partnership for Community Action, Inc. has stepped in to help out those in need. The goal of the Partnership for Community Action is to help individuals and families in DeKalb, Rockdale and Gwinnett counties transition from poverty to self-sufficiency through community based partnerships, low-income housing and advocacy.
The Partnership for Community Actions’ latest initiative, The Low Income Energy Assistance Program is a one-time payment to assist low-income families with home heating bills. Funded by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Family and Children Services, this program provides families with anywhere from $220 to $350 to offset the cost of their heating bills this winter.
Residents of Clarke, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Newton, Oconee, Rockdale and Walton Counties who are in need are encouraged to apply for the program. $12 million dollars has been set aside for the program and The Partnership for Community Actions believes that up to 16,000 Georgans will qualify.
Applicants maybe over 65, disabled, or home-bound because of a surgery or prolonged illness. Applicants under the age of 65 must meet certain household income criteria to qualify.
The Partnership for Community Action is accepting applications at more then a dozen service centers. If you or someone you know is in need of this grant, please call 404.929.2451 for a complete list of locations.
