Haven Properties Energy Tip: Save Money and Energy in Your Laundry Room

haven_logo_0707.jpgHaven Properties is all about high performance, environmentally friendly construction in our Atlanta neighborhoods, and this week we offer two easy tips you can implement in your existing laundry room to save money and energy. First, switch to a laundry detergent formulated for washing in cold water, then turn the knob away from the hot and warm cycles. Using only cold water to wash clothes will save you $24 to $40 in the fuel it takes to heat water. Simply cleaning the lint trap in your clothes dryer before every load of laundry will increase the dryer’s efficiency and save an additional $34 each year in energy costs.

When you’re in the market for a new washing machine, choose an Energy Star qualified, water-efficient front-load model. It will use about one-third less water and save you about $16 annually.

So far we’ve shown you how to save $215 in the living room, $145 in the bathroom, and now $74 in the laundry room. In the next two weeks, we’ll help you work your way up to saving $500 in five rooms this year. If you’re ready to start over in a new home, check out the Haven Properties Web site to see all the flexible design choices, popular locations and high performance ways we meet your needs. We’re happy to serve you in Cobb, Cherokee, Dawson, Douglas, Forsyth and South Fulton counties.
