Green Built New Homes Qualify for Tax Credit

Going GreenIf you are in the market for a new home in Atlanta, you may want to consider purchasing a green built home. Not only will a home built to meet or exceed the standards of EarthCraft and ENERGY Star lower monthly utility bills and be better for the environment, but can actually earn you you a sizable tax credit. However, EarthCraft and ENERGY Star are not the only ways to incorporate sustainable practices into a new home, but they do seem to be the most popular. Rainwater preservation, solor energy, programmable thermostats, energy efficient windows and HVAC systems are all considered green products. In fact, almost every aspect of a the homebuilding process has a green alternative that can be used instead. There are, of course, a few regulations and restrictions associated with the tax credit, but for the most part, as long as your home, or green product for the home, is purchased before January 1, 2009, then you are eligible for the green products tax credit. If you are looking for more detailed information, read this article by Amy Le. This is obviously a push to encourage consumers to be more environment-friendly with their everyday life, and it it about time we take our carbon footprints into consideration. It may seem like green built homes are a little pricier, which turns many new homebuyers off of the green trend, but when you consider the lower monthly utility bills, the tax credit and the effect on the environment, there seems to be no more excuses you can use to avoid going green.
