Green Building Consultant Provides LEED Platinum Certification for Home in Cobb County

Carl Seville, a green building consultant from the Metro Atlanta area, recently completed the LEED Platinum Certification for a New World Home in Marietta, the first LEED Platinum factory-built home in Georgia and the first Platinum certified home anywhere without renewable energy sources. According to Seville, one of the most interesting features of the house is that it was factory built, providing a high level of quality control and sped up the construction process. The New World Home project also earned EarthCraft Gold certification; National Green Building Program Gold certification, Department of Energy Builders Challenge certification, and Energy Star certification. All of these certifications were handled by Seville.
New World Home’s trademarked New Old Green Modular® (NOGM® design platform incorporates a holistic approach to historically inspired green building. The NOGM process results in homes built to exacting standards in less than 100 days, provides a healthier indoor environment and saves homeowners significant money with ongoing electricity, water, maintenance, heating and cooling expenses. The homes are constructed with lumber from sustainably harvested forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and include ultra efficient HVAC systems and low or no-VOC (volatile organic compound) paints, adhesives and finishes. Other base features of the NOGM homes include:
- Spray foam insulated walls and rafters creating an air-tight thermal envelope
- Watersense fixtures, home-run plumbing and a tankless water heater that reduces annual water usage by 40 percent
- Low-E, argon-filled, dual pane, energy efficient windows that reduce air leakage
- Pre-cast, insulated, moisture resistant concrete foundation that require 80 percent less Portland cement than standard foundations and reduces the potential for mold and mildew growth
- Advanced framing techniques that significantly reduce waste as well as thermal bridging energy loss
- Maintenance-free fiber cement exterior siding that will not rot or warp and is flame and insect resistant
- Non-Added Formaldehyde cabinets, floors and trim
- Energy Star rated doors, windows, roof, ceiling fans and appliances
- And much more ….
Currently for sale, the three-bedroom, three-bath home features one of New World Home’s traditional and regionally-derived American designs. LEED is an internationally recognized certification system developed by the U. S. Green Building Council that measures how well a building or community performs across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. LEED Platinum is the highest level of LEED certification.
