Fun for the Family at ‘Music for Megan’

laura-and-megan2sm.jpgBe sure to check out the second annual “Music for Megan” this September 27! The benefit will take place at Wills Park Equestrian Center in Alpharetta and will feature a concert by Todd Fields and Steve Thomason as well as activities for the entire family. Sharp Residential has taken a big step to help Megan Sheridan and other children diagnosed with mitochondrial disease by sponsoring the event and volunteering their very own Director of Marketing, Ginny Bishop. The event was created last year and works to raise money for The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation as well as awareness about this disease. Mitochondrial disease is a genetic disorder that impairs the workings of the mitochondria. Megan, and about 100,000 other children, suffer severe “power” failures in the body due to the impaired mitochondria cells and their inability to create energy the body needs to function. Megan specifically suffers from developmental delay, muscle weakness, speech and feeding problems, heat intolerance, and several other internal issues. Megan is unable to chew and swallow food, so she is continuously hooked up to a g-tube for her nutrition. Tom Sharp, the President of Sharp Residential, who builds Atlanta new homes in some of the most sought after areas, took heart to the issue last year at the inaugural event. Because there are no proven treatments, Sharp stepped up his own involvement and is doing all he can to support Megan and find a cure for this disease. The event is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and entertainment with your family, while also helping out and supporting others.
