Family Farm Becomes Showcase Park Community in Covington
![]()
A longtime 150-acre family farm on prime real estate in Covington is being transformed into an exclusive upscale neighborhood known as The Preakness built around a 47-acre park. It will be part of the Aubrey and Polly Harvey legacy for recreation and leisure for future generations in Newton County.
“I’ve lived on this beautiful farmland all my life,” Aubrey said. “It’s my greatest pleasure and my greatest treasure, and we’ve envisioned the family park for generations to enjoy.” The couple are life-long residents of Newton County. “We want others to enjoy this land the way we have, with its beautiful hardwoods and rolling hills,” Polly said. “That’s why we’re agreeing to create The Preakness, to pass on this great legacy and treasure to future generations.” The 47-acre recreational park within the neighborhood showcases the beauty of the area. Some of the family’s original structures will remain, including a cabin, and the developers have added other amenities to enhance the area’s natural beauty and resort-like atmosphere.
The homes feature gourmet kitchens, keeping rooms and formal dining rooms on the main floor. Each plan is built on a daylight basement. The community has three builders — Bonner Builders Inc., J. Dalyn Inc. and Bonner and Bonner Inc. — all well-known for their quality construction and attention to detail. Homes start in the mid $300,000s. The park includes a fully stocked fishing pond, walking and riding trails and activities for the entire family. The community has a swimming pool, tennis courts, horse barns, riding rinks and cooking grills with nearby picnic tables. The Preakness, located on Highway 81, is being marketed exclusively by Coldwell Banker American Land Mart Inc. For information, call 678-898-2491, or visit www.thepreakness.info.
