Earth Share of Georgia Carries on The Earth Day Tradition

Earth DayEarth Share of Georgia offers citizens one smart and simple way to care for our air, land and water. As Georgia’s only dedicated environmental fund, Earth Share partners with businesses and employees to support 60 leading environmental organizations through workplace campaigns, Earth Day and other activities. For Earth Day 2008, Earth Share of Georgia is organizing three key events to promote environmental stewardship to leaders from the business world and the community at large.

On Friday, April 18, 2008, from 8:00-10:00 am, at the TWELVE Hotel, Atlantic Station, business and non-profit leaders from metro-Atlanta will gather to celebrate innovations in sustainable business practices at the Earth Day Leadership Breakfast. Sponsorships begin at $1,000 and a limited number of individual tickets are available for $100 each.

The 12th annual Party in the Park will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 7:00-10:00 pm at Atlantic Station (at the corner of 17th ½ Street and Market Street under the tent). Hailed as a model for smart growth and sustainability for the whole country, Atlantic Station is the largest brownfield redevelopment in America. In all, 11 acres of greenspace were added and 2,000 trees are being planted-beautifying our city while also reducing the urban heat island effect.

Party in the Park is Atlanta’s largest Earth Day event, bringing together a diverse group of grassroots environmentalists, devoted philanthropists, and business professionals whose collective goal is to integrate sustainable practices and policies wherever we work, live or play. Enjoy live music, food by Whole Foods Market, and a silent auction stocked with deals on unique getaways, outdoor gear, art and jewelry. Proceeds for the evening benefit Earth Share of Georgia, Georgia’s only dedicated environmental fund. Purchase tickets ($50/ person) online or by calling (404) 873-3173.

This year’s Corporate Green Day Challenge, on Saturday, April 26, 2007, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., allows employers in both the public and private sector to show their true color (green) by matching employee teams to community environmental projects. More than 400 volunteers participated in the 2007 Corporate Green Day Challenge at 20 locations throughout Atlanta and beyond! These corporate volunteers exchanged their suits for work boots and garden gloves, to clean up parks, pull privet and clean streams. For 2008, Earth Share of Georgia would like to invite your company’s employees to volunteer their time to make Atlanta cleaner and greener. Corporate Green Day Challenge is a simple way to support the environment and there is no charge to participate. An after work party will be held at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell, GA 30075, from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
