Not much can beat a homegrown tomato sandwich in the summer. Add on a little mayo and a dash of salt and pepper, and you have the perfect lunch. The second annual Love and Homegrown Tomatoes Party will provide you with the freshly grown tomatoes you need to make your delicious tomato sandwich!
The event, sponsored by the Community Gardens of Henry, is held to raise funds to support the Helping Harvests Gardens. The yield from these gardens is donated to local food pantries serving needy families in Henry County. In 2012, more than 8,000 pounds of goods from the two Helping Harvest Gardens was given away! The money will also help to expand the number of plots available to the community for personal gardens.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Wesley Way Community and Helping Harvest Gardens. Event activities will include a tomato sandwich buffet, tours of the gardens, a children’s play area, live music, a silent auction, door prizes and vendors with garden-related items. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance to the event.
