The polls are in and the citizens of the City of Suwanee have something to say: they LOVE their city. According to the National Citizen Survey, those living in Suwanee, Ga. all agree that theirs is a fantastic place to live. In 2007, Money Magazine named Suwanee as one of the top places to live. Population Growth
Community involvement and interaction among Suwanee’s citizens gives the city its small town historic feel. But don’t let this fool you– the city’s population has nearly doubled over the past decade. Suwanee achieves the romanticized ’small town feel’ by preserving their history while simultaneously moving forward. The town even boasts a Facebook and Twitter page to keep it’s residents in the know!
Going Green
Home buyers interested in going green, this one is for you. Suwanee’s innovative City Hall recently received official LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and open green landscapes replace cold, hard buildings. The art-deco Town Hall, which was built around a 10-acre park known as the “community front yard” – an appropriate testimony to the city’s ideals.
Think green! In total, of the roughly 10 square miles incorporated as Suwanee, more than 500 acres are devoted to park land and recreational outdoor environments.
Another planned green development is the Suwanee community garden. This seven-acre plot will house an organic cooperative space, complete with a renovated barn and walking paths throughout the property. Like many aspects of Suwanee’s development, this project is being planned by a group of interested community members and local businesses.
Arts and Festivals
In addition to going green, Suwanee supports its local artists in its annual Suwanee Day Festival. From eclectic hand crafted jewelry to traditional fine paintings, this is not something to miss. The annual festival is held each September and residents are already looking forward to wonderful array of crafts, music and entertainment.
