A clean, clutter-free home is one great way to start the New Year off on the right foot, and knowing you can easily recycle your Christmas tree makes the task of putting away holiday décor even easier. There are multiple ways for residents at Monte Hewett Homes’ metro Atlanta communities to dispose of their real trees this year, and many of the locations even give fresh chipped mulch back in return.

The annual Bring One for the Chipper day will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. A partnership between Keep Georgia Beautiful, The Home Depot and various other companies, this event allows you to recycle your Christmas trees at multiple metro Atlanta locations. The recycled trees are turned into mulch that is used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and individual yards. To find a location near you, click here.

Cobb County residents can drop off their Christmas trees at multiple parks, including Lost Mountain, Fullers, Harrison, Noonday Creek or Sewell parks until Jan. 4, 2014. After that date, residents can pick up free mulch created from the trees.

Both DeKalb and Fulton County residents who don’t have a Home Depot close by and that receive sanitation services from the county’s public works department, can place their tree at the curb for pick up on regular yard waste collection days. If you have a tree larger than four feet, it must be cut into four foot sections before placing it at the curb. All decorations and lights must also be removed prior to disposing of your tree. Once the trees are recycled, the mulch is used for public beautification projects or given to county residents for free.

Big John’s Christmas Trees, one of the largest and oldest Christmas tree providers in Atlanta, will remove and recycle your tree for you. The cost for the removal varies by the size of your tree, so call 404-261-4497 ext. 4 or email bigjohnstreeremoval@gmail.com for prices or to schedule your removal.
