Peachtree Hills Place Sponsors Garden of Eden Ball

php-garden-of-eden-team.jpgWhen the Atlanta Botanical Garden holds its 27th annual Ball on Sept. 27, 2008, a number of Atlantans will lend their support in two ways:  first, as members of the Garden and second as new members of Presenting Sponsor Peachtree Hills Place, an upscale residential community in Buckhead for people ages 55 and older seeking a secure, independent lifestyle.  This is the first time the active adult community has sponsored the Garden of Eden Ball. The annual black-tie gala is the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s largest fund-raising event.  The evening draws more than 450 guests annually, and supports the Garden’s mission to develop and maintain plant collections for display, education, conservation and enjoyment.  Tickets are $400 each.  To request an invitation, (Continued…)

NAMAR Names Elaine Westfall as May/June Good Neighbor

Tim McFadden presents Elaine Westfall w/Good Neighbor AwardThe Northeast Atlanta Metro Association of REALTORS (NAMAR) has recognized their 5th Good Neighbor Award Recipient, Elaine Westfall of Harry Norman REALTORS. The Association accepts nominations for NAMAR members who have made exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in their community. Elaine Westfall’s car isn’t just her mobile Atlanta real estate office. It is also her American Red Cross (ARC) office. Along with buyer and seller kits, GAR forms, and a map book, are boots, a hard hat, a three-day emergency kit, and the familiar red and white vest of someone who has come to help — A Red Cross Volunteer. Elaine’s plan is to prepare people for disaster and help them after a disaster. She seeks groups in Gwinnett County who want to learn about disaster preparedness. Brock Built Sets High Standards in the Atlanta Homebuilding Industry

bb-going-green-kick-off.jpgMajor kudos go to Brock Built for their spectacular community service project that not only benefits one of Atlanta’s best non-profit organizations, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, but also is environment-friendly as the project is being built completely to green standards. Brock Built officially kicked off their Going Green - “The Green House” project last month with the pouring of the foundation walls. Brock Built has partnered with WSB-TV and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to build an environmentally responsible demonstration home that will showcase sustainable design features attainable by the typical Atlanta family. As green living becomes more popular among the community, Brock Built is teaching people that going green begins at home. The house itself will be built to EarthCraft standards and constructed of innovative Green building materials. Other Green features will include: grey water collection, rain barrels, a water saving drip irrigation system, Energy Star appliances, extreme envelope protection, and much more. (Continued…)

HBA and HomeAid Atlanta Team Up in Fairburn

HomeAid Care DayThe first HomeAid Care Day recently went off without a hitch and is making the Atlanta real estate industry proud. HomeAid Atlanta and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (HBA) joined together to complete a “second chance” home in Fairburn, Georgia. This parternship had more than 20 volunteers show up to help with repairs and upgrades needed for the home. The group painted, installed a basketball goal and did repairs on the walls, doors, and bathrooms. The home is run by Tapestry Youth Ministies and serves as transitional housing for homeless teen mothers and their babies. The house serves as a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where these young women can strengthen their faith, finish high school, and become great mothers. The six young women were very excited and appreciative. This helpful project not only got both organizations and their employees involved in the community, but also provided a great way for co-workers to bond. A special thanks to HBA, HomeAid Atlanta, and all the corporate sposers that are helping these new mothers succeed.

Fun for the Family at ‘Music for Megan’

laura-and-megan2sm.jpgBe sure to check out the second annual “Music for Megan” this September 27! The benefit will take place at Wills Park Equestrian Center in Alpharetta and will feature a concert by Todd Fields and Steve Thomason as well as activities for the entire family. Sharp Residential has taken a big step to help Megan Sheridan and other children diagnosed with mitochondrial disease by sponsoring the event and volunteering their very own Director of Marketing, Ginny Bishop. The event was created last year and works to raise money for The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation as well as awareness about this disease. Mitochondrial disease is a genetic disorder that impairs the workings of the mitochondria. Megan, and about 100,000 other children, suffer severe “power” failures in the body due to the impaired mitochondria cells and their inability to create energy the body needs to function. Megan specifically suffers from developmental delay, muscle weakness, speech and feeding problems, heat intolerance, and several other internal issues. Megan is unable to chew and swallow food, so she is continuously hooked up to a g-tube for her nutrition. Tom Sharp, the President of (Continued…)
