Brookhaven at East Cobb Homeowners thrilled to work with flexible builder

Being among the first homeowners in a new community can be a bit daunting. But after carefully learning about and checking out their builder, Bob and Judy Brod had no qualms about being the third residents at Brookhaven at East Cobb.

“We knew that Jim Chapman Communities had won awards from the builders’ association for his amenities,” said Bob Brod. “We also checked out the model homes at his Sugarloaf property.”

What the Brods couldn’t tell from looking at other Chapman communities was the length the staff would go to make moving into their new home a joy.

“They were just outstanding,” said Bob Brod. “They gave us extensions on moving in until our house sold. And all along the way, changes were not a problem; they were very easy to work with. They even took care of us when we decided to change the lighting fixture in the dining room. We bought another chandelier from a supplier in Marietta and Chapman made arrangements to pick it up and install it for us. It was that type of thing that showed they were going the extra mile.”

The Brods built at 2,000-square-foot home with most of the living area on the main level. The second floor features a guest room and full bath, but the main family room, dining room and master are on the first floor. There’s also a spacious sunroom off the kitchen. During the building process, the couple discovered additional ways that the Chapman crew exceeded their expectations.

“There are a lot of little things that you don’t know about when you move into a new house, but they took care of them all,” said Bob Brod. “For instance, the door to the master closet was a bifold that opened in, but it covered up closet space on both sides, so they reposition it to open out. The light for the master bath was inside the door and they moved it to the outside so we can turn the light on before we walk in. The laundry room had a single door that they changed to bifolds so it’s easier to work in there. It was those sort of things that showed they cared that made a big difference.”

For many residents of the 96-home, active-adult neighborhood, one of the key features of Brookhaven at East Cobb is its location, close to shopping and services. The Brods moved in from just six miles away to keep that same convenience factor.

“For us, it’s the perfect place, close to friends, shopping and our country club,” said Bob Brod. “We’re
close to nice restaurants we like and the medical facilities we’ve gotten used to over the years. But it also gave us the chance to downsize to something more casual. We were able to pick out the finishes and touches we wanted.”

Being part of an active-adult community means the couple is busier than ever, said Bob Brod.
“We are totally relaxed here!” he said with a laugh. “My wife enjoys a book club and a canasta club. I put together a dinner at Aspen’s [restaurant nearby]. Everybody is getting along so well; it’s a good, cohesive community.”
