Atlanta’s Top 15 Home Builders
You will definitely want to pick up the October 29, 2009 issue of The Atlanta Business Chronicle, as it includes the list of Atlanta’s top 15 home builders. Every year the Business Chronicle publishes these rankings based on number of homes closed in the previous year, and this year’s list looks dramatically different than last year’s. No doubt the state of the economy has taken a toll on a number of Atlanta home builders, which is why we are proud to recognize these exceptional builders that have persisted through the hard times. Atlanta’s top 15 builders are:
- Pulte Homes
- DR Horton
- McCar Homes
- Bowen Family Homes
- Ryland Homes
- John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods
- The Knight Group
- Lane Co.
- Beazer Homes Corp.
- Ashton Woods Atlanta Residential LLC
- Sharp Residential LLC
- Meridian Homes USA Inc
- Winmark Homes Inc
- (Tie) Patrick Malloy Communities LLC and Traton Homes LLC
The list in the publication includes specific information including the number of homes closed in 2008, 2007 and 2006. Plus, it gives more information about each company like how many full-time employees and the year established. The Atlanta Business Chronicle compiles this list from internal research and information provided by the individual organizations. The Chronicle is a great source for Atlanta Real Estate news and business information, as well as the Book of Lists – a fabulous reference for everything from real estate to hospitals to marketing firms!

Excellent information Laura.. I feel that it’s very important for homebuyers to properly assess the new housing market in their desired area prior to making their “big” purchase. Buyers must first review information, such as this article, in order to get a feel for (i) what they can afford, and (ii) which builder is the right fit.
Thanks for the resource!

I am not so sure this list is that much different than last year. I mean, hasn’t McCar, Lane, Bowen, Beazer and a couple others been on the list for a while?

Joel,
Thanks for your comment, and this is one of the reasons it is great to get a look at the list from the actual publication because you can see how much the rankings has shifted since last year. Yes, McCar, Beazer, Bowen and a few others have been on the list for a while, but there placements have adjusted. Last year’s #1 builder didn’t even make the list this year. Lane did not make the list last year, and is in the top 10 this year! Every builder on the list moved up from their ranking last year, and it is pretty interesting that the #24 in 2008 would be in the top 15 in 2009.

Why isn’t Centex, Legacy and Atreus included in the list…they had at least 142 closings each this year?
