Park Springs Members Participate in Dekalb County Senior Olympics
Today members of Isakson Living’s Park Springs community will participate in Dekalb County’s Senior Olympics. Shortly after 10 a.m., 17 members of Park Springs will hit the pool at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia, Ga. to compete in water volleyball. Members will be split into three teams appopriately named the “Springers,” “Spike-n-Splash” and “The Stingers” and compete against other senior citizens 50 and older from across Dekalb County. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be given to the first, second and third place winners.
To prepare for the Senior Olympics, Park Springs’ Fitness Manager, Lenoria Mackey, brought in a personal coach to train the three teams and teach them official water volleyball rules and regulations. The Dekalb County Senior Olympics is the closest members of Park Springs will get to the actual Olympics and the experience has allowed them to have a little bit of fun. Recently team members attended a meeting wearing white t-shirts with blue towels around their waists and holding colorful pinwheels as the Rocky theme song blared from the speakers.
The DeKalb County Senior Olympics, founded in 1986 is designed to create awareness of the abilities and capabilities of older adults, help maintain and improve health and wellness, promote an interest in lifetime sports, recreation and physical activity as well as provide a strong sense of accomplishment. In addition to water volleyball, numerous sporting events are planned.
Offering a continuum of care and a plethora of activities, Park Springs is the ideal community for Atlanta seniors looking to live an active life. Good luck to the members of Park Springs! We’re rooting for you!
