Atlanta Real Estate Sellers Beware
Atlanta home sellers beware, potential buyers may be searching your home for more than just a great deal, they also may be looking to nab your prescription medications.
Drug abusers are seeking out home showings to steal prescription medication to abuse or sell on the street. Brandie Miner of the Georgia Association of Realtors recently told Channel 2 that they have had several agents report instances of couples scheduling a home showing solely for the purpose of searching the home and stealing drugs they find.
Ed Cordrey with Solid Source Realty says that none of their 2,800 agents have had this happen to their sellers, but he is not surprised that this seems to be a growing trend. Historically, their agents have experienced potential “buyers” stealing air conditioning units, copper wiring or anything of value left within the home. One agent even had a diamond engagement ring stolen from a home.
His advice to sellers is to make sure you take anything of value out of your home or put your valuables in a safe hiding place. “You want to make your home look like a model home, not a home that has been lived in,” said Cordrey.
