Atlanta Ranks 16th in New Housing Stock

Atlanta ranks 16 out of the 100 largest U.S. metro areas in its percentage of new homes with 10 percent of the 2.2 million housing units in metro Atlanta having been built in 2005 or later.

According to an On Numbers analysis of U.S. Census Bureau’s 2010 American Community Survey for the nation’s 100 biggest metropolitan areas, the reports shows that 225,423 homes in metro Atlanta were built no earlier than 2005 and 395,406 or 18 percent of the area’s homes were built in 1969 or earlier.

In addition, Austin, Texas has the newest housing stock in America with 15 percent of its homes built since 2005 and Buffalo/Niagara Falls, N.Y. has the oldest stock of housing with 71 percent of its units were built in 1969 or earlier.
