Atlanta and Georgia are Places People Want to Live
I came across one of the most interesting rankings I’ve seen in a long time. As an Atlanta Real Estate Forum reader, you know that we love to find lists in which Atlanta ranks high – like top cities for singles, most recession-proof cities to retire in, best places to do business, etc. With our low housing prices and exceptional job market, it really comes as no surprise that Atlanta does make it to the tops of most of these lists. However, these lists are completely based on numbers and statistics, as they should be, but whether or not Atlanta makes it to the tops of those lists doesn’t necessarily mean that people want to move here. That’s why this new list I found is so intriguing.
Thanks to a recent Harris Poll, we can now say with no doubt in our minds that Atlanta and Georgia are places that people want to live. Harris Interactive surveyed 2,498 U.S. adults between August 10th and August 18th in order to create two different lists:
- States Where Most People Would Like to Live – Apart From their Own State, basically Harris Interactive approached over 2,000 people and said “If you could live in any state in the country, except the state you live in now, what state would you choose to live in?”
- U.S. Cities People Would Most Like to Live in or Near to – for this list, Harris Interactive asked “If you could live in or near any city in the country except the one you live in or nearest to now, which city would you choose?”
In the first poll, Georgia came in at #14, and has been in the top 15 every year since 1997. As for cities, Atlanta was ranked #13.
Out of all of the cities in the nation, Atlanta is #13 for where people want to live, beating out Miami and Los Angeles. Apparently, our reputation for a low cost of living, affordable housing, vibrant culture and nightlife and stable job market has spread throughout the nation and made the city rather appealing and popular.

Such a nice thing to see.. Our state and great city in the list of desires. People could live here by betting in foreclosures for sale, a cheap way to find a home
