Academy Mortgage is the number one independent mortgage company in the nation, and we have maintained our status by using an “all under one roof” method of business. Because we are an independent company, all of our loan officers are also licensed, which is a huge benefit to homebuyers working with Academy.
The Frank Dodd law, which passed in 2010, requires all loan officers with independent mortgage companies to have a license. The law set up a strict regiment for officers to attend a 20-hour pre-licensing class, and then they must pass a national test to receive their license. In addition to the national requirements, most states have their own standards and tests that loan officers must pass. Also, every loan officer must undergo a background and credit check, and complete continuing education every year to keep up with changes in guidelines and regulations.
Academy’s “all under one roof” operations mean that our underwriters, processors and closers are all located in the same building, and we are all able to work closely together. This closeness allows each person involved in the loan process to have constant communication with each other. Once the loan officer has the complete application and initially determines that you are pre-qualified, they give the application and all documents to the underwriter. The underwriter must conditionally approve your loan, and then the loan processor comes in as a liaison between all parties involved in the loan process. Once all paperwork and documentation has been compiled, the loan can then be completely approved.
